Careful that you pay attention to the source code license on FLARToolkit (Flash):

"FLARToolkit is free to use for non-commercial applications. It is based on the ARToolKit library under the GPL license and so the source code for any FLARToolKit applications that are made needs to be made available to the Spark Project."

To be honest, most of those examples are not really augmented reality in the core idea of augmented reality. All it is it using a printout of a black bordered box to position an object in 3D. Which would even be easier with your mouse and the fact that if 'magically' appears on your desk doesn't add much. So the "reality" here that is supposed to get augmented is in fact just the black bordered box that wasn't even there in the first place. Augmented reality really makes sense and is useful in applications like Wikitude (http://www.mobilizy.com/wikitude.php) where the real "reality" gets augmented.

Ahh you went all technical on me. it's Augmented reality as far as the industry is concerned :)

I agree Thorsten - there needs to be something augmenting "reality", not simply watching animations on a computer screen. I really like the BMW example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9KPJlA5yds); it's not terribly exciting, but it's real and has a practical application. Having said that, the other stuff shown here is still really cool.

    Hey there,

actually I don“t like link posting in the comments section, but I was told to do so,
after a small mail conversation with the people from this blog.

So: please note that the MINI campaign and the LEGO terminal were done by www.metaio.com
Those guys also offer an alternative to the given information about how to achieve augmented
    reality in a browser.

    Cheers,

Nice overview. You are however only using 'marker' AR examples - and there's so much more to Augmented Reality. Why don't you take a look at this article: The Augmented Reality Hype Cycle http://www.sprxmobile.com/the-augmented-reality...

And of course our Augmented Reality Browser for mobile: Layar http://layar.com. Video: http://layar.eu/?p=123

    Arhrrrrrr Zombie Game
If you print a huge map you can play this game fully in 3d! So you can walk in the city and kill the zombies. That would be a great event!
