Sorry, for the double post but, it's based on a lack of an edit button. People obsess too much over these stupid websites anyway. It's because between the age of 14-22 you are usually more stupid than the children you make fun of. I think the whole basis of Facebook and Twitter and all of the other sites is this, and in this order for the male population. Contact Person -> Act Like Someone You Aren't -> Obtain Trust -> Sexually Harass -> Hope to Get Laid. It's like internet dating lol.

I think poeple who obsess about any platform need their brains checked. i heard a mate the other day say she really aspired to attend a tweet up. get a life you idiot. and it's called a 'meet up'. ioften find these new tech fads reach out to the most autistic in society.

Twitter sounds so completely pointless. Why do people feel the need to blog about completely random or uninteresting things in their life? Who even cares? What is it saying about social insecurity these days? Between instant messaging and the endless number of social networking sites, it appears that the art of socialising in the real world is taking a backseat while the superficialness of such online activities is rapidly increasing. In a world dominated by image and success, many people feel the need to be "famous" and "popular". Thinking of the so-called "addiction", one wonders if people are just using Twitter to superficially boost their self esteem. There is no doubt that social networking can result in wonderful relationships (I can vouch for that myself), but on a site where so much is so pointless and meaningless people need to ask themselves what their life is about and what they're achieving on there.

1) that's entirely not what @replies are meant for, that's what DMs are for
2) meh, things would get messy. the magic of twitter is its simplicity
3) it depends ENTIRELY on who you follow. the founders of twitter can't help how creative or imaginative their users are

This has not been my experience.
1. We chatted for HOURS during the last election. I have never laughed so much - well not in a long time. The redhaired jokes about Kerry encouraged some people to leave the coverage on the other stations and head to ABC.
2.All my friends tend to follow each other, so we see the conversation. I also use #hashtags if the conversation gets popular, easier to follow.
3. When I finally meet people in the flesh, I feel like I"ve known them for ages. There are people who, if they haven't tweeted for a while, are missed.

Twitter definitely works as a distribution and notification system for me. But then, I don't follow bots/spammers/ConnectionCollectors back so most of my "database" or "followers list" tend to be in Australia, interested in Social media, and connected to me in some way (attend my courses, read my blog). Still shocks me when a blog post that has been sitting quietly gets tweeted and a couple of hundred people visit it in the next 8 minutes...

I don't think Twitter does the long tail very well - a synchronous tool means trying to enter a brand conversation a week or two later, is too late. Unlike blogs and Facebook where I can show up to a January posting, in March :)

yeah there really seems to be stat junkies on Twitter. Ive seen people with 7000 follows link to something, I check that link and it's had 123 views.

I'm so addicted to Twitter even though it's a bit shit.

Imagine if it was really good. That could be really bad.

I'm going to resist the link pimping thing here but I did just write a post complaining about people's obsession with numbers on Twitter. Like how many followers they have "ooh I'm about to reach 4,000 followers" or "help @dumbo get his 1000th followers"

That's what annoys me about Twitter the most.
